with two snakes wrapped around it. It was an ancient astrological
symbol of commerce and is associated with the Greek god Hermes. It is
often mistakenly used as a symbol of medicine instead of the Rod of

escaped from her when Zeus ordered his release. She is believed to be a
daughter of the Titan Atlas.

Calchas met a prophet named Mopsus and they engaged in a contest of
prophesy. Mopsus correctly stated the number of figs on a wild fig tree,
as well as the number of pigs which a sow was about to give birth to.
Calchas was unable to state the right answer and was defeated, whereupon
he died with grief.
