Telemachus - He was the son of King Odysseus, of Trojan War and Odyssey fame, and Queen Penelope. He was just a baby when his father went to fight in Troy, and while his father was absent for nearly twenty years he grew up to manhood.

While still an infant, and before his father left for war, Telemachus fell into the ocean and some dolphins saved him. To pay tribute, Odysseus wore the emblem of the dolphins as a symbol on his shield. The name Telemachus means “far from battle.”

The goddess Athena, went to Ithaca, the island kingdom ruled by Odysseus, and advised Telemachus to eject the troublesome suitors of his mother from his house, who were insisting that Penelope give up hope of Odysseus' return, and instead marry one of them.

The suitors refused to leave and eventually, after many adventures, father and son were re-united in Ithaca. But because Athena had disguised Odysseus, he was not recognized by Telemachus. Once the identity of Odysseus was revealed, the two of them slaughtered the obnoxious suitors, who had set up drunken camp in his palace and were bullying Queen Penelope. It's a quintessential coming of age story.

The ancient writer Apollonius describes Teleon as "virtuous". He was an Athenian, the son of Ion, and the Telonites in the region of Attica derived their name from him.
